What’s the best consumer SD camcorder?
I’m looking for a camcorder to replace my aged Sony miniDV TRV22E. Decided to go for a flash memory model because of no moving parts, smaller, etc… However all the reviews I’ve read tend to indicate that HD camcorders are the way to go in terms of picture quality when compared to miniDV. I don’t want to sacrifice on video quality but at the same time don’t think I’m ready to go HD (no HD TV or DVD player)
I plan to use the camcorder primarily for home movies.
The nice thing about the new HD cameras is that you can set them to record in SD. This has a couple of advantages: You CAN get an HD camera now, so you are ready for the future. But you can still record SD quality, so you can watch it on you existing equipment.
Another bonus is that SD footage will not take up nearly as much space as HD, so even if you get a camera with a smaller HDD (40 GB), you can record like 10 hours on it!!
